Kensington
is an upscale bedroom-community on the Western edge of
Contra Costa county, about 20 minutes North of Berkeley.
Only 25% of the approximately 2000 sq. ft. lot was flat,
it was heavily overgrown, and the Client wanted a
multi-purpose site that was wheelchair-accessible. The
challenge was to create an efficient site plan that
integrated a cheerful garden that was colorful year-round
with a special-needs swimming pool and an outdoor dining
area into a topography that included an eight-foot upslope
to the property line.The
slide-show below shows the before and after pictures. The
colorful design includes multi-use paved areas and raised
planters that also serve as seating while they hide pool
equipment from view.
